We as a church are called to pray…
(Extract from Church Digest - April 2008)
As a church are we satisfied without corporate prayer? Do we secretly think after the prayer meeting on Sunday morning or after the mid week study “next time I will pray more” (I have done this!) or do we think, “next week I will get to one of the meetings so I can pray?” (I have done this too!!) It’s without a shadow of doubt that not all of us can attend all the meetings that we have for prayer, Bible study and worship, but what if we could get to a meeting that was possible for us to get to? Why don’t we go? I’m sure that even at home things can get in the way to prevent us from praying as we ought to at times, so what can we do about that? Well, “We change things so we can pray about things”. Or maybe another reason we don’t go to the prayer meeting is that we find it uncomfortable to pray aloud? This was most certainly true of me, I can tell you that when I was going to prayer meetings I never liked to pray aloud; in fact it was about 4 years before I prayed aloud at a church prayer meeting. I remember going and wanting to pray but didn’t have the courage and after every meeting I thought “next week I will pray…..” I have also been in prayer meetings where you are asked to pray and these I didn’t like at all! This is something that any brother or sister should not fear at Grace Fellowship.
As we move on now from our wonderful first members meeting we should remember that we were to make this year, a year of prayer. Let us therefore not be content in getting to church to start on time, but rather let’s us all aim to get to church in time to pray. So what should we be praying for before the service starts? Giving thanks to God for His goodness, His Love, His Grace, & Him being so merciful to us. Recently at the mid week prayer meeting I have been blessed to hear the requests that have been going up to God, revive us, a greater knowledge of God, friends, colleagues and family members to be saved, our evangelism efforts, our teachers in the pulpit and Sunday school. These are all great things to pray for and such that God would bring many answers to. Remember God loves to hear our prayers!
